The 2018 Ocean Reserve is a special, limited production, vintage Blanc de Blancs. This is a giving wine: $5 of every bottle sold goes to Mission Blue, founded by renowned marine biologist Sylvia Earle, to help establish marine protected areas, called “Hope Spots,” safeguarding the blue heart of our planet. The goal is to protect 30% of our marine resources by 2030.

Norm and Kate source fruit from some of the finest vineyards in Santa Barbara County so they do not practice viticulture. Yet, they do practice backyard beekeeping, vermiculture, composting and gardening, which contribute to a sustainable environment. Celebrate Earth Day, the Benziger way! Take in the beauty of our Sonoma Mountain Estate and learn about our Biodynamic property with an hour-long hike and wine tasting. Chris Benziger hosts the hour-long hike of the property as he shares family stories, insight into Biodynamic farming practices, and details about our many award-winning wines that come from this unique Sonoma Mountain property. The hike also includes wine tasting throughout the property. Two hikes will be offered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Complimentary for wine club members.
This viticultural journey includes a guided walk through our home ranch vineyards, planted with sauvignon blanc, merlot and cabernet sauvignon grapes. We will point out reclaimed materials used in the construction of our buildings and share leading water and energy conservation technologies. We will continue with a tour through our production facility learning about our winemaking techniques. The experience concludes with a private seated tasting of our current release wines in our Napa Certified facility. Offered Thursday – Monday at 10:30am and 1:30pm, this communal walkaround experience includes a tasting of 4 wines and lasts approximately 90 minutes. The walk includes paved and unpaved trails in the vineyards.
Spring is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated seasons in Napa Valley, when our vineyards and gardens wake from dormancy to welcome the sun, and a new vintage begins its journey at bud break. Our late co-founder Dolores Cakebread, a chef and a master gardener, planted our first vegetable garden nearly 50 years ago. The bounty of that garden continues to influence our menus with fresh farm-to-table produce each season. In this class, we’ll tour the garden and share harvesting tips while exploring the flavors of Spring. Afterward, work hand-in-hand with our winery chefs to prepare the appetizers and three-course plated lunch you will later enjoy with Cakebread Cellars wines.
