Details: Nestled high in the Eastern Hills, Rutherford Hill Winery commands a spectacular view overlooking St. Helena and the Rutherford bend of Napa Valley. Founded in 1972, the winery is a pioneer in the development of California Merlot. The grapegrowers who founded the winery studied the geography of the region and capitalized on climate and soil conditions that resembled those of Pomerol, the small but distinctive Merlot-growing region of Bordeaux. These lush, purple-black grapes have contributed greatly to Rutherford Hill's success. Merlot remains the flagship wine of the company with 75 percent of winery production dedicated to this varietal.
